By avoiding contractual obligations, they endangered my health and life.
After returning from a 17-day trip to the north of Pakistan, I have to present to Vertical Explorers (in the following text VE) two groups of serious remarks, which are contrary to mutual agreement. The cost of the trip I paid was US$3,293.
1. VE provided me with transportation in a Toyota Prado, manufactured more than 20 years ago. On the first day, the vehicle did not even have a seat belt for the passenger, which was fixed after 5 days at my request. The vehicle did not have a single standard element of passive and active safety. The tires on the vehicle were worn out. The real power of the vehicle was minimal, so for example it took 30 minutes for the 5 km long climb to the Eagles Nest Hotel in Hunza. Comfort in the vehicle was zero. The passenger seat could not be adjusted in height, nor could the backrest be adjusted. Shock absorbers almost did not exist. There was no type of music, not even a radio. Finally, on the way to Kunjerab Pass in an outside temperature of -7 degrees C, I found that the heating of the vehicle was non-existent or not working. Despite the exceptional driving skills of guide Eshan, daily travel in such a vehicle, especially on the Chilas-Besham road, was a huge risk to my life and health, with no comfort, and the need to take painkillers for joints and muscles daily. The vehicle that is rented for Rp 5,000 was completely inappropriate for the daily amount of US$ 200 that I paid to VE. Every day I had the opportunity to see that tourists are transported in suitable, up to several years old vehicles, and such were the cars in which you drove me on the route Besham-Islamabad, and around Islamabad.
2. On the Machulo La trekking, VE porters forgot to take my bottled water with them. Consequently, after the first day I drank the water I carried myself, the rest of the time I was forced to drink water “from the glacier” collected in unhygienic conditions in unhygienic containers and inadequately chemically and thermally treated. Consequently, on the last day of trekk my body developed symptoms of acute gastroenterocolitis, which, in spite of the drug therapy and diet I applied immediately, worsened over the next few days to the point that I had to enter hospital treatment in Gilgit, after which my health improved. In total, I was sick for 4 days and due to my health situation, I gave up visiting Deosai National Park and Astore Valley. Contrary to their subsequent explanation, bottled water in hotels and during travel is their obligation under the contract.
3. Cross checking the contract, I later found out that VE’s obligation was to provide me with a guide and a driver, meaning two people. Except for the last day in Islamabad, the guide and driver were the same person the whole way.
I consider that my consumer rights as well as the terms of the mutual contract have been grossly violated. I have photo and video documentation about the condition of the vehicle, as well as medical documentation from Gilgit hospital.
In my written complaint to the VE, on October 24, 2023, I offered a lump-sum compensation claim. They responded to the complaint by email on November 7, 2023, with unargued justifications without accepting and paying compensation. They responded to my reviews on social media with lies and personal insults.
